About

Vallonia is a facility-based prevocational program licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and the Office of Developmental Programs under PA Code Ch. 55 2390.

Yes, Vallonia is a tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).

As a nonprofit, Vallonia is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that meets on a monthly basis. Vallonia is licensed through the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Human Services (DHS) and the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) and holds a 14(c) certificate through the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division. Vallonia’s Administrative Entity is Crawford County Human Services.

Vallonia’s business office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm except for major holidays. Individual program hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.

Vallonia currently serves individuals in Crawford, Venango, Mercer, and Erie Counties within our established service areas.

Business Services

Vallonia does many different types of production work, from small parts assembly and packaging, to labeling and sorting, kitting, and even document shredding and disposal. We have been in business since 1963 and have done many different types of production work over our years, both manual and machine-assisted. We have experience providing a workforce for many industries including plastics, tool and die, and food service. We also offer document disposal and shredding to business and professional organizations. Vallonia provides a workforce for both single-run and multi-run job orders.

Vallonia currently has contracts with Acutec Precision Aerospace, Inc., Austinburg Mechanical Wire, Channellock, Crawford County Commissioner’s Office, McCarty Printing, Pasco Tool and Plastics, Inc., Parker-Hannifin, and Viking Tool and Gage.

Everything needed to complete the job must be provided by the manufacturer, except for any adaptive equipment provided to the individuals to perform the job successfully.

Vallonia does own a box truck, which may be used to transport materials based on the needs of the manufacturer and the logistics of transport.

Services for Individuals

Vallonia is a facility-based prevocational program for adults with intellectual disabilities and autism. We offer individuals an opportunity to make money while working and learning valuable work skills. We also offer Community Participation Supports, allowing individuals to spend time volunteering in their community using the skills they have learned at our facility. We assist individuals who wish to pursue community employment through Supported Employment services, which help them with their job search, teach them their new job responsibilities, and help them prepare for a successful transition to independence. Finally, we provide Transportation Trip services to individuals who qualify to help them travel back and forth to our facility each day. 

Vallonia only provides services for adults 18 and over. Admissions, the provisions of services, and referrals of individuals are made without regard to race (to include hair type, hair texture, or hair style), color, religious creed (to include all aspects of religious observances and practice, as well as belief), disability, ancestry, national origin (including Limited English Proficiency), age (40 and over), or sex (to include pregnancy status, childbirth status, breastfeeding status, sex assigned at birth).

Vallonia provides services to individuals from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

No, individuals are responsible for providing their own lunches. Individuals must bring their own dishes and silverware. Microwaves and refrigerators are provided to store and prepare their lunch.

Individuals are allowed to wear whatever they find comfortable, with a few guidelines. They must have closed-heeled and closed-toed shoes. Clothing must be clean, contain no offensive sayings, and no undergarments may be showing.

Vallonia provides services with funding through an individual’s waiver, which is managed by the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP). We can provide services through the following waiver types: Person/Family Directed Support (P/FDS), Community Living, and Consolidated. Vallonia also provides some limited Base and Mental Health funded services.

You will need to talk with your Supports Coordinator at the County Human Services Organization where you receive services.

Transportation services are based on a variety of factors including funding types, waiver limits, service areas, and attendance days/times. No, you are in charge of your program, so the choice is up to you! You can participate in whatever services you choose. You can attend one day a week or five days a week (if your funding allows). You can also choose which days you want to attend.

No, Vallonia does not have a wait list. However, the process for admission can take some time based on whether funding is available and how long it takes to be authorized.

Yes, Vallonia offers tours by appointment. We recommend visiting during our regularly scheduled production hours. Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.

No, we can accommodate both large and small groups. However, very large groups will be split up to allow tour guides to address questions more easily.

Donations

Yes, we accept donations of items for our programming department as well as monetary donations which help fund programs like our lunch scholarship program and our clothing closet.

Careers

Vallonia hires adults 18 and older. For positions requiring a driver’s license, you must be 21 and older.

All staff must have a high school diploma or GED. Staff with positions requiring driving (Van Driver, Utility Staff, CPS Staff) must have a valid driver’s license. No CDL is required to drive our vans.

All potential staff are required to pass a background check and a drug screen.

Most of our entry-level positions are part-time with a maximum of 29 hours per week. We do have a limited number of full-time positions available. Experience/education requirements for full-time positions are determined based upon PA Code Ch. 55 2390. 31-39.

Full-time positions include Program Specialists, Production Supervisors, and Utility Staff. Part-time positions include Van Drivers, Van Aides, Community Participation Support (CPS) staff, and one-on-one Direct Support Staff.

Vallonia offers medical, dental, vision, and life insurances, paid time off, and 401k for full-time staff.

Full-time staff are scheduled 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Part-time transportation and CPS staff may work split shifts between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.

No, our schedule is very flexible. There is no minimum number of hours or days for part-time staff. Part-time staff can work as little as one day a week for 2 hours or as much as five days a week for up to 29 hours.

Yes, Vallonia has a summer internship program. Applicant must have declared his/her major in a human service field, or that qualifies them under Title 55 Chapter 2390.33 from an accredited college or university.

Applicant must have declared his/her major in a human service field or that qualifies them under Title 55 Chapter 2390.33, which includes the following fields: Special Education, Psychology, Public Health, Rehabilitation, Social Work, Speech Pathology, Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or another human services field, and experience working with disabled individuals.
